Deciding on your next home
The first step is to talk with your financial advisor to find out what price range is best for your new home. The next step is to decide where you want to move to, will it be a warmer spot, closer to family or even a different county! Once you decide your location the last decision is the type of home. Do you want to move in with the kids, Active 55+ community, a smaller home/condo or assisted living. Here is a list of online resources for 50+ buyers and sellers.
Searching for your new home
Here is a link to Active Adult Communities in NJ. I have associates around the country that I can refer you to if you’re interested in another state. Here are some ideas for choosing a retirement destination. If you’re considering an assisted living facility, here are some questions you should consider.
Decluttering
Start with the easy stuff. Eliminate anything that’s broken, damaged, or no longer wanted. Then, go to the out-of-the-way spaces like attics, crawlspaces, and garages. Making progress in “easier” areas will build momentum to go through the harder-to-decide areas. Ask yourself, “If this disappeared tomorrow, would I run out and replace it?” If you wouldn’t miss it or need to replace it, it’s probably not worth keeping. Here is a complete decluttering guide. I have a list of local Senior Specialty Move Managers that can help with decluttering and all your moving details!
Repairs & Painting
We can certainly sell your home as-is but by doing some simple repairs and painting, we can obtain a lot more for your home. I have great recommendations for contractors to use and can coordinate their services for you.
Staging
A little bit of staging can help your house show better. I have excellent stagers that can help with this. Some of the suggestions would be to remove extra items from the kitchen counter, remove personal pictures from the walls and remove any table leaf’s and extra chairs from your dining room table. Here are some staging ideas.
